Join our experienced crew on board Copihue

Copihue is looked after and operated by a permanent crew of three. Her Captain for over three years now is the vastly experienced ocean yachtsman, Michael Symes. Michael has sailed all over the world from the Southern Ocean to the Nordic fjords and across the world’s most hostile seas. He has safely guided novice crews round both the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Horn. An RYA Ocean Yachtmaster Instructor and Examiner, he has now given up the cramped cold bunks of training boats for a much more luxurious berth on Copihue.

Her first mate is Ray Nicholson who originally learnt to sail on square riggers in the Caribbean, and loves the tradition of the Tall Ships. The responsibility for all Copihue’s gleaming brightwork is down to Ray’s impeccable attention to detail and passion for working with wood. Over the last twenty years he has sailed a wide variety of vessels and is a RYA Yachtmaster instructor. Ray shines when conditions turn bad and stoically helms through the worst the weather can throw at her.

Copihue’s stewardess is Alison Hill who joined the team in 2011 after three years living and sailing in the Caribbean. Alison looks after the interior of Copihue and will take care of your guests providing meals, drinks and endless supplies of chocolate biscuits.

Together Michael, Ray and Alison make a welcoming, experienced and professional team to look after you throughout your time on board Copihue.
